Sylhet is experiencing an intense spell of winter, with temperatures hovering around 14°C over the past few days. Adding to the discomfort, dense fog has blanketed the region, while the sun has largely remained hidden even as the day progresses.
On Monday (29 December), Assistant Meteorologist Rudra Talukder from the Sylhet Weather Office said the minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 14.5°C. He added that this chilly condition may continue, accompanied by heavy fog, while the sky is likely to remain partly cloudy.
Weather forecasts suggest that the cold may intensify further. At the beginning of January 2026, the minimum temperature in Sylhet could drop to around 10°C, with the maximum expected to be around 24°C.
Meanwhile, the biting cold has already made life difficult for low-income and day labourers. In areas such as Zakiganj in Sylhet and Jagannathpur in Sunamganj, normal life has slowed significantly as people struggle to cope with the freezing conditions.
