BNP has reinstated Sylhet’s Companiganj upazila BNP president and former Sylhet district BNP vice-president Shahab Uddin, who was previously expelled over allegations linked to the much-talked-about Sadapathor stone looting incident.
The decision was confirmed on Thursday (January 1) through an official letter signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. The letter stated that all previous suspensions against Shahab Uddin have been withdrawn, restoring his primary membership along with all party positions.
Earlier, in August last year, BNP expelled him on charges of extortion, illegal occupation, and alleged activities that were said to be against the party’s ideals and discipline. The Sadapathor looting incident sparked nationwide discussion at the time, putting Shahab Uddin in the centre of controversy.
On 11 August 2025, BNP’s central office suspended all his posts through an official notice signed by Rizvi Ahmed. Later, RAB-9 arrested him from Sylhet’s Amberkhana area on 13 September, and police took him on a one-day remand for questioning in connection with the stone looting case. However, he was later granted bail on 23 November 2025.
After securing bail, Shahab Uddin returned to his area, where the Bhulaganj Limestone Importers Group—of which he is the president—gave him a public reception.
Shahab Uddin is the son of late Abdul Bari of the Bhulaganj area and previously served as Sylhet district BNP vice-president and Companiganj upazila BNP president.
