A 23-year-old student from Sylhet has died in the United Kingdom after being critically injured in a road accident in East London. Nafizul Haque Shakil passed away on Monday night, January 19, at around 9:21pm local time, after undergoing treatment for five days.

The tragic incident occurred on the night of January 14 on Commercial Road in East London. According to reports, Shakil was riding his bicycle when the door of a parked private car suddenly opened, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the road. Moments later, a lorry coming from behind hit him. Police and ambulance services rushed him to hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death.

Shakil hailed from Gachhbari Brahman village of Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet, Bangladesh and was the son of Faizul Karim. Family members said he had moved to the UK just a year ago on a student visa and was studying computer science at London South Bank University.

Alongside his studies, Shakil worked as a food delivery rider to support himself. His untimely death has left his family, friends and the Bangladeshi community in the UK in deep shock and mourning.

Earlier this month, on January 11, another British Bangladeshi was killed in a separate road accident in Bolton, Greater Manchester.
