Police have arrested a 60-year-old man in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj on allegations of raping a 10-year-old girl.
The accused, Kachon Miah, a resident of Harajura village under Ahmadabad union, was detained after a case was filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
According to police and the case statement, the child went to a neighbouring house to play on Thursday afternoon (January 5). The suspect allegedly lured the child into an abandoned room by offering chocolate. The child later fell ill and was admitted to Chunarughat Sadar Hospital after the incident became known locally.
The victim’s grandfather, Idris Miah, filed the case on Saturday morning (January 7). Police conducted a drive the same night and arrested the accused.
Locals said the child had been visiting the maternal grandparents’ home with the mother, while the father resides in Kushtia district.
Officer-in-Charge of Chunarughat Police Station Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed the arrest, saying the accused was detained based on the complaint and legal proceedings are ongoing.
