Three rider groups in the UK have stepped forward to support the grieving family of Nafizul Haque Shakil, a youth from Kanaighat who died following a tragic road accident in East London.
On Tuesday morning, members of the Bethnal Green Rider Group — the largest rider community in East London — along with two other organisations, handed over financial assistance totaling Tk 1,287,193 to Shakil’s family. The Bethnal Green Rider Group contributed Tk 610,193, the Bethnal Green MCD Rider Group provided Tk 412,000, and the Brothers Group from across London donated Tk 265,000.
Representatives Hilal Ahmed, Imran Ahmed, Habib Ahmed, and Zahed Ahmed Bulbul presented the funds to Shakil’s younger brother, Hasanul Haque Kamran, and brother-in-law, Imadur Rahman. They also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Shakil, a resident of Gachhbari Brahmangram in Kanaighat upazila, Sylhet, was critically injured in a devastating road accident on Commercial Road on January 14. He was later taken to the Royal London Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
The tragedy deepened when Shakil’s father, Fazlul Haque — who had long suffered from heart disease — fell ill again after hearing of his son’s death. He was admitted to Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Hospital in Sylhet city but passed away on Saturday, January 31.
The back-to-back loss of father and son cast a shadow of grief across communities at home and abroad. Many have praised the compassion and solidarity shown by expatriate Bangladeshis during the family’s time of hardship.
