Former principal of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College (SOMC), Professor Dr Mainul Haque Belal, has passed away.
He breathed his last at around 8:30am on Saturday, January 17, at his residence in Dargah Mahalla’s Payera area after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 65.
Dr Belal is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a large number of relatives and well-wishers. His death has cast a shadow of grief over the medical community in Sylhet, where he was widely respected as a teacher and administrator.
His janaza was held after Esha prayers on Saturday at the Dargah Mosque. He was later laid to rest at the graveyard adjacent to the shrine.
