A day-long free eye care camp was held in Jagannathpur Upazila of Sunamganj with the slogan “Clear Vision, Brighter Life,” offering much-needed medical support to hundreds of people.
The camp was organised with the support of international humanitarian organisation Seven Seeds-UK and funded by Sheikh Idris Miah and Sheikh Enayet Hasan. It took place on Saturday, January 17, at the Syedpur Syedia Shamsia Fazil Madrasa premises, starting at 9:30am and continuing until the afternoon.
A team of eye specialists examined a total of 357 patients during the camp. Among them, 23 patients were identified for cataract and tear duct surgeries and referred to the VARD Eye Hospital in Osmaninagar, Sylhet. In addition, 297 patients received free medicines, while 185 were provided with spectacles at no cost.
The overall programme was supervised by the organisation’s manager Sadikur Rahman, along with volunteers Badrul Islam and Sheikh Ershadur Rahman. A 12-member specialist medical team from Sylhet’s Osmaninagar VARD Eye Hospital, led by senior programme organiser Md Rezaul Karim, delivered the day-long treatment services.
Founded in 2002 in East London, Seven Seeds-UK has been working in countries such as Yemen, Palestine, Syria and Turkey, providing medical care, food assistance and housing support. The organisation has also been actively involved in humanitarian work across Bangladesh.
Organisers said the programme began after a delegation arrived from England last Sunday, adding that more humanitarian initiatives will be carried out during their stay in the country.
