Sylhet Titans have suffered their second defeat on home soil in this phase of the BPL, as Rangpur Riders sealed a dominant win with seven balls and six wickets in hand. Though Sylhet’s 144 didn’t look too poor given recent BPL scores—and their bowlers even sparked some hope—Rangpur ultimately finished the job in style.
Just a day earlier, Rangpur had endured a heartbreaking Super Over defeat against Rajshahi Warriors, with Mahmudullah facing criticism for getting run out off the last ball. But the experienced campaigner answered his critics the very next day. Chasing Sylhet’s target, Mahmudullah smashed 34 off just 16 balls to take his team home and was named Player of the Match. Khushdil Shah offered equally strong support as the pair powered Rangpur to victory.
Rangpur’s chase started slowly. They lost opener David Malan for 19 after scoring only 21 in 4.1 overs. Towhid Hridoy managed just 6 off 11 before being bowled by Nasum Ahmed. Kyle Mayers also had to grind for his 31 off 29 balls, while skipper Liton Das chipped in with 35 off 25. When Mayers departed, Rangpur still needed 51 from 31 balls—but Mahmudullah and Khushdil made sure it never turned into a tense finish, putting together a 51-run stand.
Earlier, batting first, Sylhet couldn’t capitalise on their home advantage. They scraped together 144 for 8 in 20 overs. Afif Hossain top-scored with 46 off 31 and Ethan Brookes added 32, but the rest couldn’t contribute much. For Rangpur, Mustafizur Rahman and Faheem Ashraf starred with the ball, taking three wickets each.
Rangpur, under pressure after their last defeat, not only bounced back—they did it emphatically.
